Using Blog Contests and Challenges to Drive Customers

Great strides in innovation have been made through competition, contests and challenges. Not long ago DARPA challenges the intellectual elite to develop a self-driving autonomous car, 3-years later they now exist. A million dollars awarded to the winner and it was done. Private Space flight also occurred thanks to the X-Prize, and sure enough some billionaires got together with the top folks in the field and made it happen. I was there that day to witness history in the making - quite impressive indeed.

So, with all this historical background, suffice it to say that contests and challenges work, humans are attracted to competition, I know I am. In my quest to be the best in my various endeavors, competition spurs me on to create more and faster than ever before. Luckily, for you I am hardly alone in such a mindset.

If you own a blog and have a substantial readership and subscriber base you may consider having a blogging challenge and announcing the results on your blog. Contests create interest and competition is fun to watch and participate in. One typical contest is to challenge other bloggers to post their very best posts and then send traffic to them to read them and come back to your blog to vote.

The blogging contest could involve 100 or more bloggers, with the top ten moving to the championship round. The top ten could be judged on style, quality, originality or just about anything you decide. This makes your blog the place to go to review other blogs, like a blog portal or blog directory. Additionally, all those who participate in the contest will sign up as friends and refer your blog as one of the best. Think on this, it works.
